Unpolished Parenthood strongly believes in mental health maintenance but we are not in the business of keeping you in therapy forever. You schedule regular physical checkups, dental visits, hair appointments, and maybe even massages, acupuncture, skin care, and nail care. Unpolished Parenthood advocates for mental health wellness to become a part of your regular and necessary self-care routine. Established clients who have met their initial goals are welcomed and encouraged to plan ahead and schedule maintenance sessions throughout the year.
All potential new clients are welcome to schedule an optional, complimentary, 15 minute phone consultation. We will get to know each other a bit and determine if Unpolished Parenthood is the right place for you.
Your first session will be a 60 minute diagnostic consultation. This is a one-time appointment where we’ll discuss the challenges you are experiencing, complete an assessment, provide diagnostic clarity, and make recommendations to collaborate on your next steps.
Following the diagnostic consultation, you have the option of entering into therapy with Unpolished Parenthood. Sometimes you want to keep it short and efficient and sometimes you want more time to unpack and dig deep. Clients have the choice of booking 30 minute, 45 minute, or 60 minute sessions.
In general, we recommend a base timeline of 12-16 consecutive weeks, with reassessment as sessions progress. Following reassessment, we will collaboratively discuss the next steps that are right for you. That may mean continuing with weekly sessions, scheduling fewer sessions further apart, or planning out maintenance sessions.
Some clients may wish to seek brief, reflective consultation and meet for 1-3 sessions regarding specific individual or family difficulties including preparation for or adjustment to new parenthood, a specific challenge with a baby, toddler, or young child, or any other clearly identified difficulty. Brief, reflective consultations aim to equip you with actionable steps and the tools you need to cope with and handle challenges while moving forward with a restored perspective.
Brief, reflective consultations are also offered even if you are not experiencing any specific difficulties but want to ensure that you are maximizing all opportunities to enhance your personal, family, or child growth and development to everyone’s full potential.

Unpolished Parenthood does not accept insurance. Our clients prefer a more personalized service that is not managed by the restraints of insurance companies. Upon request, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance. By working with us, you have the opportunity to control the confidentiality of your services and decide whether any information is provided to insurance companies, which require a record of diagnosis and treatment sessions. Many of our clients prefer not to submit to their insurance company due to personal factors. In addition to credit card and cash payments, we accept HSA. Clients may wish to check with their HSA plan to see if mental health services are covered. If you are thinking of submitting a superbill to your insurance company, helpful questions to ask them are listed below.
- Do I have mental health benefits?
- How much of my bill is covered for services from an out-of-network provider?
- How many sessions will be covered per calendar year?
- What is my deductible and has it been met? How does this affect my mental health coverage?
- How do I obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider?
- Do I first need to get a referral from my primary care physician for mental health services?
